Barrier Layers and Encapsulation

Demaray’s technology can be used to make highly transparent anti-reflective protective barrier coatings for OLED/LED’s that are highly impervious to moisture, high temperature and pressure.

Encapsulation and barrier layer thin film made with Demaray’s technology provide for highly transparent protective coatings for applications such as wafer scale passivation, OLED encapsulation and protection of front surface mirrors as well as forming dielectric and dichroic mirrors that are completely impervious to moisture. One example of a mirror application was built and tested using a sequential deposition of an aluminum front surface mirror coating on 200mm silicon wafers followed by Demaray’s Core Technology BPDC PVD for reactive deposition of aluminum oxide as a protective film.  The coated mirrors were subjected to high temperature and pressure of about 3 atmospheres using steam at about 245 degrees C in a pressure cooker with three 1-hour cycles.  After the high-temperature and pressure testing with steam, the films deposited with Demaray’s Core Technology BPDC PVD were unharmed, having no visible corrosion as well as no so called ‘wet shift’ due to permeation of the aluminum oxide by water vapor.
